There are three main applications of inorganic powders in the plastic industry:
1.Filling modification: Inorganic powders such as calcium carbonate, talc powder, and wollastonite powder are added as fillers to plastics, which can reduce the cost of plastic products. For example, calcium carbonate is abundant in resources and inexpensive, making it the earliest and most widely used inorganic filling material in plastics. Processed ultrafine calcium carbonate and other products can improve the dimensional stability, heat resistance, and other properties of plastics, while reducing the amount of synthetic resin used.
2.Enhanced modification: Some inorganic powders with special morphological structures can enhance the mechanical properties of plastics. For example, wollastonite has a needle like structure, and adding it to engineering plastics can significantly improve the resin's thermal deformation temperature, bending strength, bending modulus, etc. It can be used in plastic products that are easily deformed by heat, such as automobiles, household appliances, and tools; Talc powder has a sheet-like structure, which can improve the tensile strength, impact resistance, creep resistance, heat resistance, tear resistance, and other properties of plastic products.
3.Functional modification: Some inorganic powders can endow plastics with special functions. For example, magnesium hydroxide and brucite powder used in polyolefin plastics can achieve low smoke and halogen-free flame retardancy, with the functions of filling, flame retardancy, and smoke suppression; Glass microbeads filled with plastic can increase the material's wear resistance, compression resistance, flame retardancy, and other properties. Its special spherical surface can also improve the material's processing flowability.
